Your first project — 15 minutes

Reading time: 15 min · Category: Getting started · Updated: 2026-05-12

By the end of this guide you have: a 3D building with roof, 6 solar panels, 1 hybrid inverter, 1 home battery of 10 kWh, and a PDF permit-pack ready for the municipality. Time: 15 minutes if you follow along.

Pro-tip: Pro-tip: open the included sample-project via File → Open sample. Everything is set up there — use it to learn Diaz Editor before starting from scratch.
1

Create site + building

3 min
  1. File → New project. Name the project (e.g. 'Westerstraat 12').
  2. Set site dimensions: 12 × 10 meters. Click 'Create site'.
  3. Click 'New building'. Drag a rectangle of 6 × 9 meters. The 3D building appears.
  4. Set 2 floors (ground + first).
  5. Click the roof. Type: gable. Pitch: 35°. Ridge direction: east-west (so 2 roof planes face south+north).
2

Place solar panels

4 min
  1. Open the component library (right sidebar). Filter to 'solar'.
  2. Drag a 'Monocrystalline 400 Wp' panel onto the south-facing roof plane.
  3. The panel snaps to the roof plane. Click the panel and check specs on the right: 400 Wp, azimuth 180°, tilt 35°.
  4. Hold Shift and drag the panel — duplicates. Place 6 panels in 2 rows of 3.
  5. Click 'Show shading' (top toolbar). Diaz Editor renders shadows for 9 AM, noon, 3 PM. Check no chimney shadow on panels.
3

Add battery + inverter

4 min
  1. Switch to 'Inside view' (toolbar) or click on the ground floor.
  2. Filter library to 'battery'. Drag 'LFP 10 kWh' into the utility room (back corner of ground floor).
  3. Filter to 'inverter'. Drag 'Hybrid 5 kW' next to it.
  4. Wire: click first panel, hold Shift and click the inverter (MPPT input 1). String forms. Diaz Editor checks string voltage stays under 600 V.
  5. Click the battery, Shift-click the inverter (battery-port). Connection made — energy-flow arrows appear.
4

Export permit-pack PDF

2 min
  1. File → Export → Permit-pack PDF.
  2. Pick paper: A3 landscape. Scale: 1:50. Check: Cover + Floor plan + BOM.
  3. Click Export. After ~8 seconds the PDF opens.
  4. Check page 1 (cover): address, customer, designer, date. Page 2 (floor plan): title block bottom-right. Page 3 (BOM): 6 panels + 1 battery + 1 inverter with kWh totals.
